The San Diego Chapter, lead by Dr. John Rogers, has a passion for identifying and treating patients at high risk for SCA. Coupled with this is a passion for educating the public, patients, and physicians about SCA and its prevention. They coordinate with electro-physiologists in the San Diego area to recruit members from their hospitals and ICD clinics to post SCAA materials in exam rooms, cardiac catheterization labs, EP labs, and other high-traffic places. They also involve local fire and police personnel and other first responders.
Among the chapter goals are: pushing for legislation to make AEDs mandatory in all schools, contacting houses of worship to determine if an AED is present (and helping to obtain one if not present), pushing schools to make CPR (including AED training) a requirement for graduation from high school, and setting up booths at health fairs, 10Ks, marathons, triathlons, etc.
